Sylacauga, Alabama (USA), 6 June 2018 – Maire Tecnimont S.p.A. is proud to announce that a major industrial milestone has been achieved by its subsidiary Stamicarbon B.V. and Pursell Agri-Tech LLC (PAT). Stamicarbon is PAT’s industrial partner and shareholder through its USA subsidiary, Stamicarbon USA Inc..Yesterday, in fact, the Grand Opening of a new commercial fertilizer coating facility was held in Sylacauga, Alabama. The plant, owned by PAT, will produce a next-generation smart fertilizer coating that will enhance efficiency and increase agricultural productivity, while significantly reducing the impact on the environment. In fact, the smart fertilizer has an innovative coating that contains the nutrients inside the membrane. It prevents valuable nutrients from leaching into the soil and volatilizing into the air, enabling them to be released into the soil at the right time and the right rate.

The synergistic combination of unique coating materials and a low-cost modular facility design allows plants to be placed close to the relevant markets, removing additional cost from production and distribution. These controlled-release fertilizers will help farmers improve their yields and optimize production, even on large-scale crops. PAT has partnered up with Stamicarbon to license this technology to fertilizer producers, traders, blenders and distributors worldwide.

Pierroberto FolgieroMaire Tecnimont Group Chief Executive Officer, commented: “This achievement confirms Maire Tecnimont Group’s technology-driven approach in developing and commercializing innovative, pioneering technologies. Together with PAT we are now able to provide a more efficient, sustainable and future-proof solution worldwide.”
