Sittard, The Netherlands, August 23 – Stamicarbon, the Licensing and IP Center of Maire Tecnimont SpA, has signed a contract with Chemoprojekt, Czech Republic, covering the license and process design package (PDP) for a revamp of the existing urea melt plant of Azomures S.A. at Targu Mures, Romania, and for a new granulation plant alongside it.

For the revamp Stamicarbon will use its Pool Reactor design, changing the synthesis plant from a conventional 1970s design to a Urea 2000Plus™ Pool Reactor CO2 stripping plant. The revamp will also increase the capacity of the plant from its current 900 mtpd to a capacity of 1425 mtpd.

For the granulation plant the latest Stamicarbon granulation technology will be used. This technology will help Azomures comply with environmental requirements regarding dust and ammonia emissions. The granulation plant will also have a capacity of 1425 mtpd granulated urea. Start-up is planned for 2015.

Azomures

The Tîrgu-Mureş Nitrogenous Fertilizer Plant – known today as AZOMUREŞ – was founded in 1962. After several periods of restructuring and privatization, the property was transferred to the Ameropa company in 2012. Azomures currently produces ammonium nitrate, calcium ammonium nitrate, urea, urea ammonium nitrate (UAN), NPK complex fertilizers and melamine. A major aim of this modernization project is to improve compliance with environmental requirements. When it is completed, not only will the plant’s production capacity be increased from 900 mtpd to 1425 mtpd; it will have much greater flexibility to respond to changes in market conditions and to domestic demand in particular. And with the new granulation unit, Azomures will be in a position to provide farmers with a premium-quality product.
