Punta Catalina Coal Thermal Power Plant

Where: Dominican Republic

Client: CDEEE (Corporación Dominicana de Empresas Electrical Estatales)

Company in charge: Tecnimont

This EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) project involves the execution of an industrial complex of strategic importance for the country's development. It includes a coal-fired thermal plant, an offshore terminal, and other associated facilities. The thermoelectric plant will be composed of two large electricity generating units of 376 MW gross each, for a total of 752 MW gross.

Tecnimont, as strategic technology partner, will execute Engineering services and Procurement for the power block, air quality treatment system and control system, along with Commissioning Services.

The Project, based on state-of-the-art technology to achieve high performance close to “supercritical” stations, represents a new installed capacity equal to 30% of the national total, with low emission levels for a sustainable environmental/social impact, replacing old fuel oil plants that have larger polluting effects on the environment.

Furthermore Tecnimont planned extensive initiatives for soil improvement using a combination of innovative techniques to cope with the unfavorable and difficult soil condition of the site.
